Today’s Baseball Pick

Texas PK +110 vs. Oakland

Action on game.

Keys to selection: The Texas Rangers send Vicente Padilla to the mound this evening on the West Coast to face Gallagher and the A’s. The Rangers are 14-5 SU when Padilla gets the nod this year and will look to him for guidance to stop this two game losing streak.

Using my Law of Average calculator, when the Texas Rangers are 1-2 SU in their last 3 games, they are 13-3 SU in the following game. Plus, they might be catching an A’s team in a letdown spot here, as Oakland is coming off a 6-game road stand and teams face such a hectic schedule on their first game back at home. Plus, when OAKLAND is a -120 to -140 home Favorite vs. Right handed pitchers this season, they are 5-14 SU in this role.

Play the Rangers at PK +110 this evening.

Calgary (-6) vs. Winnipeg (54.5)

  • Stampeders at Blue Bombers History: When Calgary travels to Winnipeg, they are 6-6-1 ATS, 7-6 SU and the O/U is 7-6-0 since 1996.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are going to shuffle the deck this week vs. the Calgary Stampeders and start ex-Boise State QB Ryan Dinwiddie. Kevin Glenn seems to be in a funk to start the 2008 campaign and one has to wonder if it’s the arm injury he suffered in the Eastern Final last year vs. Toronto setting him back, or the fact his favorite receiver Milt Stegall has been out of the line up the first four weeks of the season. The Stampeders are coming off a 43-16 blow out win over Hamilton and are currently riding a 2 game winning streak SU & ATS. The Stamps have seen their last 2 games go over the posted total and they’ve been averaging 32.3 Point For and 23 Points Against in their last 3 games. Winnipeg are looking for their first win of the season and when a CFL team starts the year 0-4 on the season, they are 3-3 SU and 4-2-0 ATS in their 5th game of the year. The UNDER is 4-2-0 in this situation as well. As for the Blue Bombers, they need to establish a running game and if Charles Roberts can’t get going, then it’s time for Doug Berry to bring in a new running back to kick start this offense. The Calgary Stampeders aren’t use to being a Road Favorite the last few years and it will be interesting to see how they respond in this situation, they are 0-5 SU and ATS as a Road Favorite the last 2 years and average 18.33 Points For and 22.67 Points Against in this role. The Bombers gave the Lions a feisty test last weekend at BC Place and if they can play hard like they did last Friday, they should have a better outcome. However, starting an inexperience QB in this role might be too much of an experiment for the veterans on offense who might get impatient and look for Calgary to win a nail bitter.

Ron’s Forecast: Calgary 24 Winnipeg 21

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When WINNIPEG team played as a Home team - Coming off a Score 18 - 20 POINTS FOR in last game; The Blue Bombers are 9-1 SU and 8-2-0 ATS in this spot since ’96.

Edmonton (-2.5) vs. Hamilton (52)

  • Eskimos at Tiger Cats History: When Edmonton travels to Hamilton, they are 4-8-0 ATS, 5-7 SU and the O/U is 7-5-0 since 1996.

If the Hamilton Tiger Cats are going to be successful this season, they will need Jesse Lumsden to stay healthy and in the line up every week or else this season will be just another right off. The time has come where the Hamilton Tiger Cats need to fish or cut bait with Lumsden, because dressing him 40% of the time will not do the Tabbies any good in their rebuilding process. Hamilton fans are starting to have a “Love/Hate” relationship with their football team and how do you expect Charlie Taaffe to be successful if he can’t get any consistency with his starting players. However, the good news for Taaffe this weekend, Lumsden will be in the line up and what’s even better from a betting perspective, the Ticats are in their normal home underdog role. In fact, I didn’t like Hamilton as a -3.5 point home favorite in week 3 vs. Saskatchewan, but I can stomach them much easier this week as a +2.5 point home dog vs. the Eskimos. Edmonton is coming off a 35-31 lost to Toronto this past Sunday and they have one of the softest defenses in the league, so I expect Casey Printers in company to have some success marching down the field. The key to this game for the Tiger Cats is to make sure Ricky Ray stays on the sideline, as he’s looking more and more like the gunslinger from previous season. The Eskimos are averaging 37.3 Points For on offense, but their defense is one of the worst in the league giving up 31.3 Points Against. The OVER is 3-0 for both teams in their last 3 contest and the Eskimos are 0-3 SU and ATS as a Road Favorite the last 2 years. Even though it looks like the sky is falling right now for Hamilton fans, with Lumsden in the line up this weekend, expect the offense to burn the Eskimos defense on numerous occasions and look for allot of 20+ yard plays against Maciocia’s defense.

Ron’s Forecast: Hamilton 29 Edmonton 23

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When ANY CFL team played as Home team as a Underdog - After a non division game - Coming off a 4-7 point Road loss; the Home Dog (Hamilton) is 12-3-0 ATS in this role since ’96.

Ron Raymond’s Pick on this game: Click here

Montreal (53) vs. BC Lions (-6.5)

  • Alouettes at Lions History: When Montreal travels to BC, they are 5-9-0 ATS, 4-10 SU and the O/U is 8-6-0 since 1996.

The last time the Montreal Alouettes won in BC was Week #9; the year was August 31st 2000. In fact, it was the same year the St.Louis Rams won the Super Bowl vs. Tennessee in what many described as the greatest finish of a Champion ship game, when the Rams defensive player (Mike Jones) tackled the Titans receiver (Kevin Dyson) at the 1 yard line to seal the deal. The Alouettes are 0-9 SU vs. the BC Lions at BC Place in their last 9 encounters and that includes regular and playoff games. Actually, the last time Montreal won in BC was Aug 31st 2000 and the Als won 35-25 and the line was a Pick’em and the total was 54.5. If the Alouettes should falter the rest of the season, I would say looking back a few weeks ago vs. Winnipeg, where they let a 31-7 lead slip to a 31-24 comeback from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, teams must of picked up something on that game and for some reason, they haven’t been the same since. However, it’s only Week 5 and they have a big task at hand this weekend vs. Wally Buono and the Lions. Montreal is coming off a heartbreaking lost to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, a game they seem to be in control until Anthony Calvillo threw that interception deep in their offensive zone and never recovered after this point. In fact, on the next kick off, Jason Armstead fumbled the football and this sealed the win for the Green Riders. On a side note, Armstead was released the next day from the Alouettes for his 2 costly fumbles in the game, but one has to wonder had Calvillo not thrown that interception late in the game, would Armstead still have a job today? The Lions are coming off a tough and emotional 27-18 win over the Winnipeg Lions, as the Lions celebrated Bob Ackles life after the game. The Lions are enjoying a 2 game winning streak and are averaging 28.3 Points For a game, while giving up 22.67 Points Against in their last 3 contest. It’s just a matter of time before the Lions start averaging over 33 PF a game, but until they do, their defense will carry them in those close games.

Ron’s Forecast: BC Lions 26 Montreal 21

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When ANY CFL Team played as Road team as a Underdog -Total is between 51.5 to 54 -Vs Non Division Opponent -Playing on Friday - Coming off a game scored 34 points or less; The UNDER is 17-4-1 for the Road Dog in this role since ’96.

Ron Raymond’s Pick on this game: Click here

Toronto (54) vs. Saskatchewan (-4.5)

  • Argonauts at Roughriders History: When Toronto travels to Saskatchewan, they are 6-6-0 ATS, 6-6 SU and the O/U is 8-4-0 since 1996.

Kerry Joseph returns to his old stomping grounds this Sunday and the Boatmen are a +4.5 point Road Underdog vs. the 4-0 Saskatchewan Roughriders. However, if Joseph is looking for his old #4 in the Green and White dressing room, seems there’s a new sheriff in town and his name is not Reggie Hammond, but Darian Durant! Durant has shown great poise and maturity as the new signal caller for the Roughriders and it’s going to force head coach Ken Miller to make a wise and educated decision when Marcus Crandell is ready to come back. The Riders are coming off a exciting 41-33 win over the Montreal Alouettes this past Sunday and they are averaging 33.3 Points For a game. The Argos are 2-2 SU on the season and their second win of the year came from a 109 yard drive last week vs. the hapless Eskimos defense. The Argonauts looked old on defense last week, as veterans like O’Shea, Wheaton and Fletcher were starting to look a bit slow and when was the last time the Argos were involved in 3 straight games that went OVER the posted total? You would have to go back to Week #9, August 17th 2003 to find the answer and that 4th game went under the total vs. Edmonton in an 18-15 lost. Plus, Toronto will be without their middle linebacker, as Kevin Eiben will be out a few weeks with a MCL tear.
The Argos are allowing 31.5 Points Against a game and having your old defensive coordinator as your new head coach is one major reason why the Argos are allowing so many Points Against.

Every team has an identity, right now I’m still trying to figure out what makes the Argos tick and what will be their bread and butter the remaining games of the season. If Kerry Joseph can get a reliable go to receiver he can trust and the Argos defense can get their Points Against Average down to 27 or lower a game; they could be the team to beat in the Eastern Division, as nobody really wants to win this division!

Ron’s forecast: Saskatchewan 33 Toronto 17

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When TORONTO team played as a 3.5 to 6.5 Underdog - Coming off a Home win as a Favorite; The Argos are 3-7 SU and ATS in this spot since ’96.

Today’s Baseball Pick

San Diego – Pittsburgh: OVER 10.5 -110

Action on game.

Keys to selection: The Pirates bats have spoken! Pittsburgh has scored 25 runs in their last 3 games and averaging 8.5 Runs per game in their last 5 outings. Furthermore, both the Padres and Bucs are having pitching issues of late, both teams are averaging a combined 6.2 runs against average in their last 5 contest.
Here are a couple of baseball team systems backing up this selection this evening. In fact, when the Pirates are a Home Favorite at night and they are coming off a division road game that went OVER the posted total; the OVER is 10-1-0 for the Bucs in this spot since 1997.
On the other side of the fence, the Padres have seen the OVER go 13-2-0 in the road dog role vs. Right handed hurlers, while coming off a game 3 series lost vs. NL Central opponents.

Plus, this total opened up at 10.0 -120 and it’s been bet up to 10.5 -110, so keep an eye out during the day to see which direction this total will move.

Around the Horn - ATS Style July 23rd

Around the Horn ATS Style

By Ron Raymond of www.phoenixsports.com

July 23rd, 2008

Today’s Baseball Pick

Oakland – Tampa Bay: UNDER 7.5 -115

Action on game.

Keys to selection: Any time a team gets outclassed in their past game, teams with a winning record fall in my “line value” category. Let’s face it, when the Kansas City Royals get beat by 8 runs or more, the perception is they are just a bad team and have been in this position more times then a team with a winning record. Therefore, I don’t put much value in the Royals to win in their next game, as I would a team with a winning record like the Rays. Sure there’s line value in backing up a team like the Royals after a bad lost, but that’s about it.

Looking at today’s action, the Rays lost by 7 runs last night vs. the A’s and when a home team loses by 7 runs in their last game this season, they are 15-6 SU in their next game. However, I feel there’s more value in betting the under 7.5 posted total this afternoon for several reasons.

a) The Rays have seen the UNDER go to 11-2-0 when they are a Home Favorite vs. Left handed pitchers this season.

b) It’s get away day for both clubs, as the Rays travel to KC after this game and the A’s return home for a series with the Rangers. Look for both team to get out of dodge quickly.

Nice pitching duel this afternoon, Smith vs. Shields and the UNDER is 14-3-0 when Smith toes the rubber for Oakland this season.

Around the Horn - ATS Style July 22nd

Around the Horn ATS Style

By Ron Raymond

July 22nd, 2008

Here’s some notable numbers to consider today when making your baseball selections. The Mets are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games and the UNDER is 7-3-0 in those games. The UNDER is 15-6-0 for the Rockies when Jimenez toes the rubber and the O/U is a even .500 for the Rockies vs. Left handed pitchers this season at 14-14-0. The Nats will counter with Bergmann today and the Nats are 2-11 SU in his starts this season and the OVER is 21-14-0 when Washington faces a southpaw.
Seems the early money has created some line movement today, the following games have seen the total jump from half to a full point on the total in some of today’s games.

  • Phillies- Mets: 8.5 TO 7.5

  • Dodgers – Rockies: 9.5 to 10.5

  • Cubs – Dbacks: 9.0 – 9.5

  • Nationals – Giants: 9.5 to 8.5

  • Blue Jays – Orioles: 9.5 to 9.0

  • Red Sox – Mariners: 9.0 – 8.5

Today’s Baseball Pick

Boston – Seattle: UNDER 8.5 -115

Action on game.

Keys to selection: Daisuke Matsuzaka gets the nod today for the Bo Sox and the Red Sox have only allowed 1.67 runs against in his last 3 starts. Plus, the Red Sox bats have been silent of late, as they are only averaging 2.8 runs per game in their last 5 starts.

Here’s a 66% winning baseball system backing up our UNDER call in the Boston vs. Seattle game tonight at Safeco Field. Whenever you have a Home Underdog and the total is between 8.5 to 9.0 during the month of July, before a non division game and they are coming off a lost vs. Left handed pitcher; The UNDER is 31-16-1 for the Home Dog in this role this season since 1997.

Plus, this total opened at 9.0 and the early money has been coming in on the UNDER. Let’s back the system and early money on this game and go with the UNDER 8.5 -110 in the Red Sox vs. Mariners game this evening.

July 21ST, 2008

Many factors come into play when making your daily picks, using stats and trends are a good way of getting you to lean in one direction, another method you should be using is following the line moves. Reading the lines is a sort of an art form, similar to reading when somebody is bluffing in poker. When a line is moving in one direction, one has to wonder why the line or total is moving in one direction. Is it wise guy action, late injury, weather, it’s important to stay connected to your new sources to get insight on today’s daily activity. Check out the Line Moves at ATS Database.

Today’s Baseball Pick
-----------------------------------

Washington – Atlanta: UNDER 8.0 -110
Action on game.

The Braves send Jair Jurrjens to the mound this evening vs. the Nats who are mired in a 2-8 SU record in their last 10 outings. Despite a valid effort last night and losing 7-6 to the Braves who are 31-18 SU at home this season, they will counter today with John Lannan. The Nats are 5-14 SU when Lannan gets the nod, while the Braves are 12-6 with Jurrjens toeing the rubber, with the O/U being 6-12-0 favoring the UNDER.

My recommendation this evening is to bet the Nationals vs. Braves game UNDER 8.0 -110. In fact, when the Washington Nationals are a +160 to +180 Road Underdog, vs. an NL Conference opponent, during a night game, coming off a Road loss and that game went OVER the total, the Nats have seen the UNDER go to 9-1-1 since ’96 and that’s going back to when the Nats were in their Expos days. Here’s a flashback for you, the first time this scenario happened in 1997, John Smoltz was facing Carlos Perez and that game finished 2-1 for the Braves going UNDER the 7.5 posted total.

Another angle supporting this selection this evening is when you have a Road team like the Nats, playing a conference foe, before a division game, scored 6 or less runs FOR in their last game and they are coming off a Road loss as an Underdog; the UNDER is 22-12-1 for the Road Team in this position this season. Again, this betting system is backing up our UNDER selection tonight.

As always, “use past mistakes for current profits!”

Good luck.

Why do you think there’s a salary cap?

It’s about bringing parity to sports and giving each team a chance to win a championship. Look at the proof in every sport at every level; Who would have guessed the Kansas Jayhawks would have been playing for a BCS Bowl game last year? Who saw the NY G-Men going 0-2 to win the Super Bowl? How do you explain the Colorado Rockies going to the World Series last year? The sports world our parents knew from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s is not the same sports world of today, money bought championships in those days, parity is about bringing balance to today’s sports.

Why do you think there’s parity? Two words: Sports Betting! Owners knew with the internet and having every thing “on demand” today like NFL Sunday Ticket, to get the younger generation of today which I’ve dubbed “generation what’s in it for me”, would be playing fantasy sports or betting on games to stay interested in the game. Eventually, sports fans are going to realize, if I’m going to pay anywhere from $250 to $1000 a year on viewing sports for things such as Sunday Ticket, NBA Pass, MLB Extra Innings, NHL Centre Ice and numerous other Pay Per View events like MMA and Boxing, how can I get a return on this investment? It’s not like spending $10 to watch a movie for 1 night, were talking hundreds of dollars for a season, for one sport! Now that we are forced to pay to watch sports, it’s become “investment TV” in a sense.

Sports betting and Fantasy Leagues are the future of sports and it will one day be considered and treated like the Stock market.

Which brings me to my point, how do you handicap parity? With teams being equal today, you have to research past situations and play the percentages. That’s why it’s important to consider past mistakes for current profits. Good luck with your betting.

Ron Raymond's CFL Football Previews (Week 4)

CFL Week 4 Previews

Hamilton (54) vs. Calgary (-9)

  • Tiger Cats at Stampeders History: When Hamilton travels to Calgary, they are 8-6-0 (ATS) 3-11 (SU) and the over/under are 6-8-0.

In my Week 3 report, I indicated the Hamilton Tiger Cats were in a classic letdown spot vs. Saskatchewan and didn’t have a good history of being a good Home Favorite team. Which makes me wonder if the Tiger Cats will rebound this Thursday vs. Calgary like they did in Week 2 vs. the Argos in Toronto? The Tiger Cats are a +9.0 point Road Underdog vs. the Stampeders at McMahon Stadium this week, but that number has been bet down to 8.5, as the early money is coming in on the Tabbies. Hamilton is 6-4-0 ATS vs. the Stampeders as a Road Dog since ’96 and they’ve seen their last 2 games go OVER the total. Calgary on the other hand is coming off a nice Road Underdog win over Montreal and has seen the OVER go to 17-7-0; when they are a Favorite in July. Plus, the Stamps are in a favorable position this week; they are 10-2 SU as a Home Favorite during Week 1 to 4 of a CFL season. Furthermore, when ANY CFL Football team is a -7 to -9.5 Favorite, after a non-division game; they are 19-1 SU since 1996. Plus, if you’re a totals player, here’s a nice trend bucking to the UNDER this week; Hamilton has seen the UNDER go to 16-3-0 when they are on the road vs. a non-division foe and the total is between 51.5 to 54.0 Check your proline tickets, you might get a 55! The Stamps showed allot of pride last week after a rough first half, but made the right adjustments at halftime and flew out of La Belle Province with a nice 23-19 win over the Alouettes. Hamilton was involved in a great see-saw battle with the Green Riders, but lost in a controversial way when Riders receiver Dressler got the ball punched out by a Hamilton defender at the 1-yard line and the ball rolled out of the end zone. Had this been the NFL, it would have been ruled a touchback, but since this is the CFL, the rule states the ball belongs to the last team that touched the ball and this is why the ball was placed on the 1 yard line for Saskatchewan. Nevertheless, I just hope Charlie Taaffe is not one of those coaches that is carrying the bad luck cloud, as I’ve seen this movie before!

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When CALGARY team played as a Home team - Coming off a Road win as a Underdog; The Stamps are 15-2 SU in this role since ’96.

Winnipeg (51) vs. BC Lions (-7)

  • Blue Bombers at Lions History: When Winnipeg travels to BC Place, they are 8-5-0 (ATS), 6-7 (SU) and the over/under is 5-7-1.

Sports Handicapping 101 says you should always bet against the team that won in game 1 of a back to back home and away series, but the 0-3 Winnipeg Blue Bombers aren’t gleaming of confidence or showing signs of improving on a weekly basis. Furthermore, I’m starting to think the broken arm Kevin Glenn suffered in the Eastern Final vs. Toronto last year is playing a psychological role in his ability to perform at a higher level. Or at the very least, pick up where he left off last season, as Glenn seems to be misreading his receivers and has not shown any consistency in his actions. Additionally, the Bombers strength was suppose to be the defense, but they are allowing 34.3 points against a game and are mired in a 3-game losing streak SU and ATS. Plus, statistically speaking, the Bombers are faced with a tough task this Friday night; they are 2-8 SU as a home or away team when the total is between 51.5 to 54. The BC Lions finally got their first win of the season last week in the Peg and are 7-3 SU vs. the Blue Bombers as a Favorite. If you’re looking for a low scoring affair, you might be on the right channel this week, the UNDER IS 9-2-2 for the Bombers on the road during week 1 to 4 after a non-division game. But here’s the bad news for Winnipeg fans, the Lions are 10-2 SU as a Home Favorite vs. Non-Division opponents when they are playing on Friday nights. Lions head coach Wally Buono should be feeling a sense of relief; Jarious Jackson looked composed in the pocket and engineered some nice drives. The Line makers have labeled the 1-2 Lions as a -7.0 point Home Favorite with the over/under set at 54.0. My ATS Calculator has the Lions winning by 14.3 points and the over/under to land on 54.9.

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When BRITISH COLUMBIA team played as Home team as a Favorite -Vs Non Division Opponent - Coming off a 1 game over; The Lions are 12-0 SU in this position since ’00.

Ron Raymond’s Pick on this game: Click here

Montreal (52) vs. Saskatchewan (-6)

  • Alouettes at Roughriders History: When Montreal travels to Saskatchewan, they are 6-5-1 (ATS), 9-3 SU and the over/under is 8-3-0.

One of the reasons I liked Calgary to win straight up last week vs. Montreal, was the fact the Alouettes let a huge lead slip in Week 2 vs. Winnipeg, but hung on for the Win. However, if you recalled in Week 2 vs. the Blue Bombers, the Alouettes jumped to a 31-7 lead and allowed Winnipeg to crawl back to within 7 points. To be honest, this must have been a huge concern for Head Coach Marc Trestman, as this indicated his football team didn’t have that killer instinct to put teams away when they are down and out! Montreal is in a nice spot here this Saturday; they are 16-4 SU on the road during July games since 1996. In fact, if there’s a team Montreal wants to face this weekend, it’s the Saskatchewan Roughriders; Montreal is 20-4-1 SU at home or on the road vs. the Green Riders since 1996. But here’s the bad news; the Alouettes are 3-12-3 SU as a Road Underdog when the spread is between 4.0 to 7.0! Furthermore, Saskatchewan seems to enjoy home cooking the first four weeks of the season, they are 16-4 SU in this spot since 1996. If you’re a situational handicapper, the Alouettes are coming off a 2 game home stand and they are 13-7-0 ATS, 14-6 SU and the OVER/UNDER is 8-12-0 favoring the UNDER. According to many, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are not supposed to be 3-0 on the season and averaging 31 points per game on offense. If you’re wondering how will Saskatchewan will do at home after a road underdog win in Hamilton last week; the Riders are 4-6 SU & ATS, with the OVER prevailing 7 out of 10 times.

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When SASKATCHEWAN team played as a Home team - Coming off a Road win as a Underdog; the OVER is 10-2-0 for the Roughriders in this spot since ’96.

Ron Raymond’s Pick on this game: Click here

Edmonton (50.5) vs. Toronto (-3.5)

  • Eskimos at Argonauts History: When Edmonton travels to Toronto, they are 9-3-1 (ATS), 6-7 (SU) and the over/under is 6-7-0.

Going from defensive coordinator to Head Coach is a big jump for a young coach, but it’s a huge LEAP when you’ve been an assistant coach or coordinator your whole life to the head cheese. In fact, I call it the “Bryan Trottier Rule”! If you recall, Bryan Trottier was an assistant coach for 8 years in Pittsburgh and Colorado and then promoted to Head Coach of the New York Rangers during the 2002-03 season with a 45% winning percentage in 54 games. Then, there’s the NFL angle or should I say the NFL PR move on releasing popular kicker and the heart and soul of the team Noel Prefontaine for ex-NFL kicker Mike Vanderjagt. Now let’s conclude the dysfunctional triffecta with the QB carousel by bringing in Kerry Joseph and stopping the growth of potential CFL star QB Michael Bishop. I have one question, who on earth is making these decisions? A good management team should not fix things that aren’t broken, unless they don’t want it to be broken. Food for thought! Let’s recall, the Argos finished 1st in the Eastern Division and hosted the Eastern Finals in 2007. As for this Sunday’s game, here’s another situation of a home and way back to back series with the Argos hosting the Eskimos at the Rogers Center. The bookmakers have pinned the Argonauts as a -3.5 point Home Favorite and the total is set at 50.5. The Eskimos nearly let the Argos back in the game last week, but pulled away in the fourth quarter with a 47-28 win. The last time the Argos allowed 40 or more points against in a game was in Week 12 of the 2007 season vs. BC, as the Lions beat them 40-7. However, Toronto rebounded nicely the following week vs. Winnipeg 31-23 as a -4.0 point home chalk. Edmonton is a “Jekyll and Hyde” type team, they tend to play well at home, but you never know which Eskimos team will show up on the road; as they are 6-13 SU on the road in July games since ’97. The last 2 games have gone OVER the total for the Argonauts and since ’96; the UNDER is 16-9-0 in the following games for the boatmen in this situation. Edmonton is averaging 31.3 point per game, but they are allowing 31 points against, which much be a concern for Head Coach Danny Maciocia. Plus, not a good spot for the Edmonton Eskimos this Sunday, they are 6-13 SU as a Road Underdog in July games since 1997. Tread lightly friends!

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When TORONTO team played as a Home team - Coming off a Road loss as a Underdog; The UNDER is 7-3-0 for the Argonauts in this position since ’96.

Ron Raymond's CFL Football Previews (Week 3)

CFL Week 3 Previews

courtesy of www.Phoenixsports.com

The CFL Week 3 previews are dedicated to a man who gave CFL fans a great ride for 40 years with all his dedication and passion for the game of football. Bob Ackles will be sorely missed by his family, friends and peers. Bob Ackles was the President and CEO of the BC Lions and the author of the book “The Waterboy”. Bob Ackles past away this past weekend at the age of 69 years old and is one of the most respected builders of the CFL game.

Now, speaking of the BC Lions, Wally Buono and the Lions are off to a rough 0-2 start, losing both games by 10 points and they are facing another desperate 0-2 team in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. However, if you recalled in my CFL Football previews, I wrote how the Lions like to start late out of the gate, as they are 23-26 SU in Week 1 to 4 since 1996.

History tells us it’s not going to get any easier for the Lions this week, as they are 0-3 ATS and SU when they face an opponent who started a season at 0-2 SU and the OVER is 3-0-0.

Calgary (51) vs. Montreal (-3)

  • Stampeders at Alouettes History: Calgary is 5-7-0 (ATS), 4-8 (SU) and the OVER is 10-2-0 since 1996 when they travel to MontrĂ©al

The Montreal Alouettes bolted to an early lead last week vs. Winnipeg, as they were up 31-7 at halftime and looked like they had this game in cruise control. However, a different Winnipeg Blue Bombers team showed up in the second half, as they were able to cut into the lead and before you can say “bob’s your uncle”, it was 31-24! Then the turning point of the game took place late in the fourth quarter, Anthony Calvillo scampered for 16 yards on a second and 15 and drove the team for a score which put the nail in the coffin for the Bombers on that night. Calgary on the other hand, fell to their provincial rivals, they lost 34-31 in an exciting 4th Quarter, as the Stamps trailed most of the game and just when you thought they protected the lead, Ricky Ray hit Jason Tucker on a 36-yards pass in the dying minutes to secure the win. Calgary is not a good betting position this Thursday night at Molson Percival Stadium, they are 5-10-1 ATS as a Road Underdog in July. Meanwhile, the Alouettes are 7-3-0 ATS as a favorite in July since ‘96, but get this; they are only 5-5 SU! Also, from a betting perspective, the Montreal Alouettes are 17-3 SU at home after playing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Plus, this is a great QB matchup for Week 3; Henry Burris vs. Anthony Calvillo and keep in mind, Dave Dickenson is the back up in Calgary, while Montreal counters with Banks and McPherson.

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When MONTREAL team played as Home team as a Favorite -Vs Non Division Opponent - Coming off a game scored 38 points or more; The OVER is 9-2-1 for the Montreal Alouettes in this role since ’96.

Toronto (45) vs. Edmonton (-2.5)

  • Argonauts at Eskimos History: Toronto is 9-3-0 (ATS & SU), while the O/U is 4-8-0 since ’97 for the Argos in games played in Edmonton since ’96

Well, it didn’t take long for the media to crash Argos Head Coach Rich Stubler’s honeymoon, as it seems there’s already a QB controversy in Argo land! Toronto suffered one of its worst home defeats in recent memory, as they lost to the Hamilton Tiger Cats 32-13 as a -10.5 point home favorite. In fact, prior to the Tiger Cats game, the Argos were 20-0 SU as a -10.0 or more home favorite since 1996. The last time they lost in this fashion was in Week 7 of the 2006 season vs. the BC Lions, the Lions tamed the Argos 28-8, but they were a +2.5 home underdog in that case. Nevertheless, last week’s beating was enough for one of the owners (David Cynamon) of the Argos to sound off, he blasted the team in the media and went on “Off the Record” with Michael Landsberg and took no prisoners in his criticism. Plus, the Argonauts bench boss is pushing the panic button a bit prematurely this week vs. the Eskimos, he revoked the play calling duties from the offensive coordinator Steve Buratto and gave Kerry Joseph the keys to the offense, as he will be calling his own plays vs. Edmonton this week. The Argos are in a bad betting situation this Thursday, because when they are a Road team as an Underdog, during Week 1 to 4 of a season and they are coming off a game that went over the total, they are 0-5 SU in this role since ’96. Edmonton on the other hand, seemed to have found the offensive playbook last week; Ricky Ray looked like the old gunslinger from pass season and finished the night hitting 65.9% of his passes for 448 yards.

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When ANY CFL Team played as a Road team -With 6 day off -Vs Non Conference Opponent - Allowed score 31 points or more against - Coming off a Loss over Hamilton opponent; The UNDER is 10-2-0 for the Road Team in this role since ’96.

Ron Raymond’s Pick on this game: Click here

BC Lions (48.5) vs. Winnipeg (-2.5)

  • Lions at Blue Bombers History: BC is 8-6-1 (ATS), 8-7 (SU) and the UNDER is 11-3-1 for the Lions when they travel to Winnipeg to face the Blue Bombers.

The Battle of the 0-2 teams face off on TSN’s Wendy’s Friday Night football in Week 3! The bookmakers have opened with the Blue Bombers as a -2.5 point home favorite and they are 15-3 ATS and SU as a -3.0 point or less home favorite since 1996. While the Lions are 9-14-0 ATS, 7-15-1 SU as a +3.0 point or less road underdog and the UNDER is 13-8-1 for them in this spot. Furthermore, the Lions seem to struggle on defense via the ground, they are ranked 7th vs. the run, but rank 1st vs. the pass. Winnipeg will no doubt want to get Charles Roberts involved this weekend, as the Bombers offense seems to get rolling when he’s more involved. In fact, Doug Berry might want to consider running the ball a bit more, the Bombers are ranked last in yards rushing with 104 yards on the ground this season. However, it’s pretty tough to run the ball when you’re playing catch up like they were last weekend vs. Montreal and the Argos defense held the fort in Week 1. Expect much of the same type of game Toronto and Winnipeg played in Week 1 at Canad Inn Stadium and look for the Bombers to give the lions a heavy dose of Charles Roberts.

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When WINNIPEG team played as Home team as a Favorite - Coming off a 1 game over; The Blue Bombers are 17-1 SU in this role since ’96.

Ron Raymond’s Pick on this game: Click here

Saskatchewan (46) vs. Hamilton (-2)

  • Roughriders at Tiger Cats History: Saskatchewan is 8-4-0 ATS, 5-7 SU and the UNDER is 8-3-1 at Ivor Wynne Stadium since ’96.

The line opened up as a Pick’em on Monday, but once the 2-0 Roughriders announced former North Carolina Tar Heels QB Darian Durant was going to get the nod in place of injured starter Marcus Crandell, the public has bet this line up to -2.0 in the Ticats favor. Not a good spot for the Ticats, as they are 6-9-0 ATS as a -3.0 point or less home favorite and 7-8 SU. Plus, the Tiger Cats are coming off a huge win over the Toronto Argonauts last weekend as a +10.5 point road underdog and you’re always concern about a let down spot here for the Tabbies. Saskatchewan is riding the hot hand, they spanked Edmonton 34-13 at home in Week 1, went into the Lions den and beat up Wally’s boys by 10 points and now face one of the top one-two combos in Casey Printers and Jesse Lumsden on Saturday night. In fact, history tells us this is not a good spot for the Green Riders in Steel Town this Saturday afternoon (4pm start); the Roughriders are 0-6 SU when they are labeled a road underdog vs. Hamilton since 1996! The line makers seem to have the total a bit low in my opinion for this showdown, as I would have made the total around 48.5 to 49.0, but keep in mind the UNDER is 8-3-1 for the Roughriders when they play in Hamilton. To be honest, this game might be decided by the kickers, both Luca Congi and Nick Setta are two of the top kickers in the game today in the CFL.

ATSDatabase.com Stat of the Game: When ANY CFL Team played as a Home team -After a division game - Before a non conference game - Coming off a game scored 31 points or more - Coming off a Road win as a Underdog; The UNDER is 9-3-0 for the Home Team (Tiger cats) in this role since ’96.

Good luck and remember, this is the CFL, anything can happen during the 3 minute warning! Trust me; I’ve got the scars to prove it!
