Ron Raymond's NHL Hockey Forecast - October 31st

Canadian 4-Time Champion Sports Handicapper Ron Raymond provides his daily NHL Hockey predictions and insightful statistical analysis on each NHL game. In fact, the following NHL picks and predictions are based on Ron Raymond's general knowledge of the game and he'll include information from his statistical ATS database, ATS calculator, ATS ratings and other tools at his disposal to bring readers the best sports betting information on each game. Furthermore, for our Canadian sports bettors who play Pro Line and Sports Select, get experience advice from a Professional handicapper like Ron Raymond and use his NHL Picks and analysis on making your proline selections. Also, Pro line allows bettors to wager on 3 to 6 teams and it's your wager multiplied by the odds. Plus, you can bet sides or totals with Pro Line. However, 12-year veteran sports handicapper and one of the original pioneers of the online sports handicapping industry, Ron Raymond recommends to his clients to bet with a Sportsbook offshore like Bookmaker.com; as the Pro Line system restricts you to one form of wagering and you don't enjoy the full bonus benefits offered by the offshore Sportsbooks.

Here are today's NHL Picks for Friday, October 31, 2008

Ron's Straight Up Record: 83 wins 60 losses for (58%)
*Note: Ron went 11-4 (SU) on Saturday night and 13-0 (SU) on Saturday, October 28th for a combined Saturday record of 24-4!

Dallas vs. Chicago

NHL hockey stats VS. Free NHL Picks
(5.5)           (-125)

Ron's Comment: Marty Turco needs a turnaround game and this is a great spot for the Stars to jump start their all star goalie out! Turco is 14-2-1 SU vs. the Blackhawks lifetime and has 3 shutouts vs. Chicago. Furthermore, the Stars are 8-4-3 (SU) in their last 15 trips to the United Center and the last 4 games between these to two clubs have gone under the total in this building. The Blackhawks have been off for 3 days and could have a bit of rust tonight vs. Dallas. In fact, going back 5 years, when the Chicago Blackhawks are at home and are coming off 3 days rest, they are 3-8 (SU) and the O/U is 7-3-1. My ATS Value Index Ratings says this game has a 73% chance of going UNDER the posted total.

Prediction: Dallas 3 Chicago 2

Vancouver vs. Anaheim

NHL hockey stats VS. Free NHL Picks
(5.5)           (-170)

Ron's Comment: As much as I would love to go Tim Thomas in this spot, as Roberto Luongo shutout the Kings in LA last night, the Canucks are in a bad betting situation. Vancouver will be playing in back to back games and this will be their third game in four nights. When the Canucks are on the road in this exact situation the last 5 years, they are 2-11 SU and the O/U is 9-3-1. According to my source, Luongo is expected to be in nets again tonight and look for Giguere to get the nod for Anaheim. The UNDER is 9-4-2 the last 15 times these two teams have met at the Duck pond. Furthermore, here’s a hockey betting situation since 1996 that is 13-2-1 SU for the home teams in this role; When ANY NHL Team Played as Home team as a Favorite - Vs Western conference opponent - After a conference game - During the month of October - Coming off a Central division opponent and coming off a 1 goal win.

Prediction: Anaheim 3 Vancouver 2

Ron Raymond's NHL Forecast for October 30th

Here are today's NHL Picks for Thursday, October 30, 2008

Ron's Straight Up Record: 77 wins 54 losses for (59%)

*Note: Ron went 11-4 (SU) on Saturday night and 13-0 (SU) on Saturday, October 28th for a combined Saturday record of 24-4!

Atlanta vs. NY Rangers

NHL hockey stats VS. Free NHL Picks
(5.5)           (-230)

Ron's Comment: Trust me, I've been trying to find the 4th corner of this jigsaw puzzle myself and I'm having a hard time typing this comment out! However, of all the three seven o'clock games to put first on the rotation; why did the bookmakers put this one? Trap game? I think so, big letdown factor for the Rangers 4-2 win over their inter-state division rivals the Islanders and let's face it, the Thrashers are coming off a 7-0 lost to the Flyers, so who's really giving them a shot here? Rangers are coming down in class here and what better way to get traded off a bad hockey team they to play well in front of Glenn Sather and the NY Media.

Prediction: Atlanta 3 NY Rangers 2

NY Islanders vs. Philadelphia

NHL hockey stats VS. Free NHL Picks
(5.5)           (-200)

Ron's Comment: I look at this Islanders line up and I just don't see secondary scoring and you can't depend on old veterans like Weight and Guerin anymore in this young kids league who are flying by these older veterans. Goaltending is an issue and they have an AHL defense at best. Flyers are now 3-0 without Briere.

Prediction: Philadelphia 4 NY Islanders 2

Tampa Bay vs. Buffalo

NHL hockey stats VS. Free NHL Picks
(5.5)           (-175)

Ron's Comment: Big letdown game for the Lightning, as they put all their energy and focus on beating Toronto on Tuesday, they might have burned out their top line. Tampa Better get some secondary scoring, because Melrose is going to burn out his top line and his goalie can't continue to face over 40 shots a game. Look for Buffalo to rebound after their fatigue game vs. Ottawa. Buffalo had no legs or energy vs. Ottawa and they've been the recipient of a bad schedule to start the season. Close game, but the Sabres pull it out in the third period.

Prediction: Buffalo 4 Tampa Bay 3

Ottawa vs. Florida

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(-115)           (5.5)

Ron's Comment: The Panthers beat Ottawa 3-1 last week in Ottawa; their goaltender Anderson was outstanding, so why start Vokoun tonight? Sens are 11-4 SU in their last 15 trips to Miami and it looks like Spezza is rolling!

Prediction: Ottawa 3 Florida 1

Montreal vs. Minnesota

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(-125)           (5.5)

Ron's Comment: As predicted yesterday, the Wild had their minds on the Habs tonight and Montreal is starting to look like a team with the Century year pressure! Montreal needed a penalty shot and a shootout to be the Canes on Monday and looked rusty vs. Anaheim on Saturday. Plus, the players know their coaches (Lemaire and Tremblay) always want to beat Montreal.

Prediction: Minnesota 3 Montreal 2

Edmonton vs. Nashville

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(5.5)           (-130)

Ron's Comment: Roloson was outstanding in the Oilers 1-0 lost to the Bruins on Tuesday, so look for him to play well again tonight, as he's playing for a trade out of Edmonton these days.

Prediction: Edmonton 4 Nashville 3

Carolina vs. St.Louis

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(5.5)           (-125)

Ron's Comment: When you have a hot goalie, you ride him out! Cam Ward has been keeping his team in games and they are off tough lost over Montreal. St.Louis has been off 4 days, so they could come out rusty and they are starting their 3rd or 4th starter in Mason.

Prediction: Carolina 4 St.Louis 2

Boston vs. Calgary

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(5.5)           (-145)

Ron's Comment: Julien going to ride his hot goaltender out and how can you blame him? Thomas is coming off two 1-0 shutout wins, but here's the bad news, Kiprusoff is coming off his own 3-0 shutout. The Flames are 4-1-1 vs. the Bruins since '97 and this is Boston's 3rd game in 4 nights.

Prediction: Calgary 3 Boston 2

Columbus vs. Colorado

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(5.5)           (-173)

Ron's Comment: Andrew Raycroft is expected to get the nod tonight for the Avalanche and he's 2-0 in his spot starts this season. The Blue Jackets are 1-13 SU vs. Colorado at the Pepsi Center since entering the league. Not a good spot for Hitch's boys.

Prediction: Colorado 5 Columbus 2

Pittsburgh vs. Phoenix

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(5.5)           (-115)

Ron's Comment: The difference in this game might be defense. When I've reviewing each team's line ups, the one thing that stands out is the Coyotes are a bit deeper at the Blue line then the Pens. Pittsburgh is 2-5-2 SU vs. the Coyotes in Phoenix and they are getting a rested up Coyotes team tonight, as they haven't played in 4 days. Rust could be a factor at the beginning, but it seems when they score, they score in bunches. Not a good betting spot for the Penguins here; they are 3-12-1 SU as a Road Underdog - Vs Non Conference Opponent - Coming off a Road loss as a Underdog and scored 1 or less goals FOR in their last game.

Prediction: Phoenix 4 Pittsburgh 3

Detroit vs. San Jose

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(5.5)           (-145)

Ron's Comment: The Red Wings have played too much hockey of late and this is their 3rd game in 4 nights. Conklin is the penciled starter tonight for Detroit and San Jose is 18-4-1 (SU) since 1998 as Home Favorite - Total is 5.5 on 1 days rest and they are coming off a Home win as a Favorite.

Prediction: San Jose 3 Detroit 2

Vancouver vs. LA Kings

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(-110)           (5.5)

Ron's Comment:Luongo has looked like a regular goalie thus far this season and you have to start wondering if wearing the C is too much for the ex-Val D'Or Foreur (Jr. Team) net minder? The Kings have really impressed me this season, I didn't think they would be this competitive, but if they can find a way to pepper more shots on goal, they could make it interesting down the stretch. The Kings are 7-4-1 (SU) Home Underdog, before a conference game on 2 days rest.

Prediction: LA Kings 4 Vancouver 3

Ron Raymond's NHL Hockey Picks October 29th 2008

Canadian 4-Time Champion Sports Handicapper Ron Raymond provides his daily NHL Hockey predictions and insightful statistical analysis on each NHL game. Ron's Straight Up Record: 76 wins 52 losses for (59%)

*Note: Ron went 11-4 (SU) on Saturday night and 13-0 (SU) on Saturday, October 28th for a combined Saturday record of 24-4!

Toronto vs. New Jersey

NHL hockey stats VS. Free NHL Picks
(5.0)           (-210)

Ron's Comment: Ron Wilson might want to pack a few bottles of Tums this evening, because he's playing on the road against a team who will be in a nasty mood after losing 2 straight fight filled games vs. the Flyers. Plus, to make matters worst, when the Devils are at home on 3 days rest after a division game, they are 11-1 SU in this spot. Furthermore, this has the making of a low scoring game, as the UNDER is a perfect 6-0-1 for the Devils after losing 2 straight games after a division game. Furthermore, Toronto has seen the UNDER go to 12-4-1 when they hit the road, playing in back to back games and they are coming off a home lost in the first game of the back to back game situation. Brodeur has 3 shutouts lifetime vs. the Leafs and could make it 4 tonight!

Prediction: New Jersey 3 Toronto 0

Minnesota vs. Dallas

NHL hockey stats VS. Free NHL Picks
(5.0)           (-140)

Ron's Comment: The Wild are 3-0 on the road this season, but their road wins were against Tampa Bay, Florida and Atlanta! Minnesota heads to Dallas for a Western Conference showdown with the Stars and they are 3-10-1 SU in Dallas since 2000 and 5 of the last 6 games between these 2 clubs has gone OVER the total in Big D. The Wild are Coach by Jacques Lemaire and Mario Tremblay, 2 ex-Montreal Canadiens coaches and players and guess who they have on Deck on Thursday night? You betcha, the Habs will be sitting in their hotel rooms tonight watching this game and this is your classic look ahead spot for the Wild. Marty Turco is 11-4-0 vs. Minnesota and the Stars, who lost 6-5 on Monday vs. Washington, are 8-2 SU for 80% after a non conference game the last 2 years.

Prediction: Dallas 5 Minnesota 2

Detroit vs. Anaheim

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(-125)           (5.5)

Ron's Comment: Nothing like going on a 4 game road trip and you're feeling good about your hockey team after winning those 4 games, to find out you have Detroit waiting for you in your first game back at home! Plus, the Detroit Red Wings are currently on a 5 game winning streak and have seen their last 6 games go OVER the posted total. In fact, looking over the data the last 5 years, when the Red Wings have seen the OVER go 5 or more they are a perfect 8-0 in their next game! Plus, the Ducks have the opportunity to come out flat here this evening, as they haven't played well in their 4 wins with the exception of the 6-4 win over the rusty Canadiens on Saturday night. But, the Red Wings aren't blowing teams out of the water either, but they have the experience to win the close ones; as they are 8-1 (SU) the last 2 years when they are coming off two 1-goal wins and that record goes to 13-4 (SU) last 5 years. Ducks come out flat and the Wings capitalize early.

Prediction: Detroit 4 Anaheim 1

Ron Raymond's NHL Hockey Picks - October 22nd

Here are today's NHL Picks for Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Ron's Straight Up Record: 50 wins 32 losses for (61%)

*Note: Ron went 13-0 SU on Saturday October 18th 2008.

Florida vs. Ottawa

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(5.5)           (-185)

Ron's Comment: The Panthers are in a tough spot tonight, they're starting their back up goaltender Craig Anderson and they are coming off an emotional 3-1 lost to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night. The reason why I'm saying it's an emotional spot for the Panthers, any American team who doesn't play in a serious hockey market, find the Montreal and Toronto “game day circus” a bit overwhelming. Now, the Panthers must enter the Scotiabank place against an Ottawa team who've been skated into the ice the last few days in practice by their angry head coach Craig Hartsburgh, and they are coming off a lackadaisical effort vs. the Bruins. Spezza has been dropped down to the second line, so the Sens are scrounging to find their games and look for Ottawa to come out hitting. Plus, Gerber gets the nod for Ottawa, he's 7-1-1 with 3 shutouts vs. Florida with a 1.99 goals against average.

Prediction: Ottawa 4 Florida 2

Dallas vs. New Jersey

NHL hockey stats VS. NHL hockey picks
(5.0)           (-135)

Ron's Comment: If there's one thing I've learned in high profile incidents like the Avery and Brodeur fiasco when they last met, 9 out of 10 times nothing happens in the rematch. Non-issue for me in this write up and my energy will be spent on how New Jersey goes to 5-1 after tonight. Dallas is too inconsistent to support in this spot after their "let's win one for Avery game" vs. the Rangers. Plus, when the New Jersey Devils are a home team and they are coming off two 1-goal wins the last 2 years; they are 8-1 SU in this spot. Devils are well rested after 3 days off and are riding a 2 game winning streak.

Prediction: New Jersey 3 Dallas 1

San Jose vs. Philadelphia

NHL hockey stats VS. Free NHL Picks
(-130)           (5.5)

Ron's Comment: Granted, the Flyers are 0-5 SU on the season, but they've had a tough schedule to start the '08 campaign. Both their home games were against winning teams in Montreal and the Rangers, and they had to leave to the West Coast to play a physical brand of hockey in Anaheim and San Jose. However, they get the Sharks in back to back situations tonight and it's been 3 days off for both teams, since the Sharks won 5-4 last Saturday. Nittymaki has been assigned to mind the pipes tonight and the team has spent the last few days practicing for over 90 minutes each day. Team captain Mike Richards stated the team is loose and they aren't worried about the tough start. Flyers get their first win tonight.

Prediction: Philadelphia 4 San Jose 3

Detroit vs. St.Louis

NHL betting stats VS. NHL odds
(-140)           (5.5)

Ron's Comment: Detroit is being hit with the injury bug of late, Zetterberg has a groin injury that is bothering him, he's a game time decision and defenseman Andreas Lilja underwent an appendectomy Tuesday morning. The Red Wings are showing some signs of fatigue and 4 of their last 5 games to start the season have been decided by 1 goal. Therefore, they aren't really blowing out teams this year and the Blues are off to a great start at 4-1 SU. Look for Ty Conklin to get the nod tonight and Legace is expected for the Blues. Let's count on a bit of history tonight, as the Blues are 8-2 SU as a home team vs. Western conference opponent, coming off a 3 game winning streak and they are coming off a Central division opponent. Look for another 1-goal game from the Wings, but in the Blues favor.

Prediction: St.Louis 3 Detroit 2

Edmonton vs. Chicago

hockey handicappers VS. best hockey picks
(5.5)           (-130)

Ron's Comment: The Edmonton Oilers are living on the edge these days, as every game is a 1-goal game and 75% of their games finish 3-2. However, they are entering the new Chicago Stadium tonight, as it seems Hockey is back in Chicago and Joel Quenneville has been implementing his system in practice. The Blackhawks were supposed to get a few days off, but Quenneville said it's time to go to work boys and this should be good news for Blackhawk fans everywhere. The Oilers are set to let Dwayne Roloson get his first start of the season and it will be a tough spot for him to enter vs. a new rejuvenated Chicago team. Khabibulin seems to be Quenneville's guy and is expected to get the call tonight. Again, tough betting spot for the Oilers, they are 4-12-2 SU as a Road team before a conference game, coming off a Home win as a Favorite and coming off a 1 goal win.

Prediction: Chicago 3 Edmonton 2

Vancouver vs. Columbus

hockey betting VS. NHL predictions
(5.5)           (-125)

Ron's Comment: The Canucks are supposed to be a team built around defense and their All-Star "Captain" Roberto Luongo; but every game has gone OVER the total! Like what the "Bleep" is that all about? Reading the press clippings this morning, the Canucks want to return to the fundamentals of defense and this will be a conscious effort on Vancouver's part this evening vs. Rick Nash and Company in Columbus. My only concern about backing the Blue Jackets this evening, Captain Luongo has 4 shutouts vs. Columbus lifetime, but the injuries are leaving the Canucks in a tight spot here tonight.

Prediction: Columbus 2 Vancouver 1

Boston vs. Buffalo

NHL hockey stats VS. nhl hockey picks
(5.5)           (-165)

Ron's Comment: Who did the Bruins piss off at head office during the summer to receive such a crappy schedule? They played 4 games on the West coast to start the season, return home for 1 game which they played and lost last night, and right back on the road tonight vs. Buffalo. Energy and fatigue has a good chance of setting in the second half of tonight's game vs. the high flying Sabres and Miller is 11-3-4 lifetime vs. the B's.

Prediction: Buffalo 6 Boston 4

Anaheim vs. Toronto

NHL hockey stats VS. nhl hockey picks
(-130)           (5.5)

Ron's Comment: After watching numerous Ducks game this season, if there's one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb, they are the slowest team in the NHL. Toronto on the other hand is maybe one of the quickest teams in the NHL. If you remember that Leafs vs. Blues games on Thanksgiving Monday in Canada, both teams were flying and it was a great game to watch. Here's what I'm anticipating will happen tonight. The Leafs are going to feel like they are at the Calgary Stampede, as this game is going to have a rodeo feel to it! Speed kills and the Ducks might spend half the night in the box, so tons of goals in this game and power play chances for the Buds. Plus, Anaheim is 1-7-2 SU vs. the Leafs in Toronto and the last time the Ducks won in TO, Microsoft was releasing Windows 98 (Second Edition)!

Prediction: Toronto 4 Anaheim 2

Atlanta vs. Tampa Bay

NHL hockey stats VS. nhl hockey picks
(5.5)           (-140)

Ron's Comment: The Lightning have game breakers on this team who need to start picking up their game and win one for their sitting duck coach. Here's a great betting situation for Tampa Bay to get in the win column this evening. They are catching a Thrashers team coming off a home underdog win over Buffalo, so there's a letdown opportunity for Atlanta this evening. The Thrashers might be looking ahead vs. their game vs. the Stanley Cup Champions, but this spot is normally a weakness for good teams, not teams in the "Southleast" division. Normally when a team gets blanked off the score sheet the game prior, they tend to put more focus on the offense in the next game;. In fact, when a team is at home, coming off a 3 game home stand and scored no goals in their last game; they are 6-1 (SU) the last 3 years in this role.

Prediction: Tampa Bay 4 Atlanta 3

Washington vs. Calgary

NHL hockey stats VS. nhl hockey picks
(6.0)           (-120)

Ron's Comment: The Flames are off to a 1-4 start this season and they could be pressing tonight vs. Washington. Here's the bad news for the Flames, Ovechkin loves to play in Canada and always gives 110% to dazzle the fans. Plus, the Flames might want to start their back up goaltender tonight, Kiprusoff is 0-2 vs. Washington and the last time the Flames beat the Caps at home was March 26th 1998. All my stats and numbers point to the Flames here tonight, but number #8 of the Capitals and Flames home record vs. Washington makes it tough to pull the trigger on them tonight. If you want action on this game, consider the UNDER as my O/U Value index says there's a 87% chance this game goes under the total tonight.

Prediction: Washington 3 Calgary 2
