Here are today's NHL Picks for Friday, October 31, 2008
Ron's Straight Up Record: 83 wins 60 losses for (58%)
*Note: Ron went 11-4 (SU) on Saturday night and 13-0 (SU) on Saturday, October 28th for a combined Saturday record of 24-4!
Dallas vs. Chicago
VS.
(5.5) (-125)
Ron's Comment: Marty Turco needs a turnaround game and this is a great spot for the Stars to jump start their all star goalie out! Turco is 14-2-1 SU vs. the Blackhawks lifetime and has 3 shutouts vs. Chicago. Furthermore, the Stars are 8-4-3 (SU) in their last 15 trips to the United Center and the last 4 games between these to two clubs have gone under the total in this building. The Blackhawks have been off for 3 days and could have a bit of rust tonight vs. Dallas. In fact, going back 5 years, when the Chicago Blackhawks are at home and are coming off 3 days rest, they are 3-8 (SU) and the O/U is 7-3-1. My ATS Value Index Ratings says this game has a 73% chance of going UNDER the posted total.
Prediction: Dallas 3 Chicago 2
Vancouver vs. Anaheim
VS.
(5.5) (-170)
Ron's Comment: As much as I would love to go Tim Thomas in this spot, as Roberto Luongo shutout the Kings in LA last night, the Canucks are in a bad betting situation. Vancouver will be playing in back to back games and this will be their third game in four nights. When the Canucks are on the road in this exact situation the last 5 years, they are 2-11 SU and the O/U is 9-3-1. According to my source, Luongo is expected to be in nets again tonight and look for Giguere to get the nod for Anaheim. The UNDER is 9-4-2 the last 15 times these two teams have met at the Duck pond. Furthermore, here’s a hockey betting situation since 1996 that is 13-2-1 SU for the home teams in this role; When ANY NHL Team Played as Home team as a Favorite - Vs Western conference opponent - After a conference game - During the month of October - Coming off a Central division opponent and coming off a 1 goal win.
Prediction: Anaheim 3 Vancouver 2
